The flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses that are caused by different viruses. Typically, flu symptoms will make an individual feel worse than the symptoms associated with the common cold.
Flu vs Common Cold: A Guide to Symptoms
Typical Symptoms Flu Cold
Onset of Symptoms sudden slow
Fever high fever none or mild
Exhaustion Level severe mild
Headache yes no
Appetite decreased normal

If you suspect that you or your child has the flu, call your doctor. If your child has the flu, remember he or she will be required to be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school!
For additional information or questions, please contact your child's school nurse.
